i’m the queen of disaster

BLECH. Chase had a head cold all last week, he’s finally mostly over it… but now I have it. Woke up Sunday morning feeling crummy and gross, and still do.

I thought I had a bunch to post today but I really don’t. I got the Leia dress mostly finished last Monday:

All that’s left is hemming the skirt, finishing the edge of the trim in the back, and a closure on the top.

Back of the top. Kinda loving the top all on its own. I put it on yesterday morning to mark the snap positions – had it on with no top and a pair of baggy flannel pants and immediately felt like a Christina Aguilera backup dancer.

While marking the snap positions I realized… it doesn’t really need a closure. I can get it off and on without opening the front. So forget snaps, I sewed it closed. And then I tried to put it all on by myself… and realized I really DO need that elastic extension I mentioned previously. So I made the extension, got it attached, elastic in, and closed off in the back. A lot easier to do when I don’t have to worry about working around a front closure.

So that’s done. I also got the skirt hemmed but no photos of it finished – I was having a hard time getting it folded over twice to hem it, so I folded it over once, machine-sewed that down, then pinned it over again and finished that by hand. Worked pretty well.

Then I moved onto the snoods. I was initially going to try to make them by cutting up all the extra trim I had.

But the trim was just too thick and if I cut it too thin (width-wise), it would break. So I scrapped that.
Also, this plate is what I used to cut out the fabric for my medieval Leia snoods, so I know it’s a good shape base for them, so I went and got it to use as a reference again. Unfortunately when I pulled it down out of the kitchen cabinet, one of my favourite plates was on top of it and fell. Thankfully the plate was ok, so I picked it up and put it back, and continued to pull out this plate so I could use… and the good plate fell again and broke this time. I was so mad (and felt so crummy) that it made me cry. It’s a cute plate with a fox on it mom gave me for christmas year before last. Chase said it was a clean break and he could glue it back together but I still bummed.

Anyway, plan B for the snoods is embroidery floss.

I’m braiding strands of gold floss to make them thicker – once I have like 20-25 strands I thought I could assemble something that looks about like what I’m thinking. No idea if this is going to work, so fingers crossed. Also, all this embroidery floss is out of my stash, so I’m hoping it’s something I can still find when I have to go buy more (because I know the 4 things I had of it won’t be enough. 1 made about 5 strands.)

So yeah there hasn’t been a ton of sewing this week because I took a break to clean my sewing room.

Main thing I did was go to ikea and get 5 more of these cat houses. I looked like a crazy cat lady checking out at ikea. I had 5 cat houses and a kitty litter scoop. The scoop was on clearance and I figured we could use a new one.

I also picked up some clear vinyl, and sewed it onto the front of all 10 cat houses. So now I have a window to see what is in each bin without the fabric wanting to fall out. Also rearranged the shelves a bit. Pretty happy with how it all looks now.

I cleaned up the pattern mess in the corner. Much nicer. I’m hoping once I have my sewing machine shelf on the other side, I can put my pattern bins in that as well so they’re not just stacked in the corner.

This is the wall where I want the sewing machine shelf. Really almost like a bench, I want it to be the length of that short wall and be open in the center. That’s what I’m envisioning anyway. I don’t like the machines living on the floor but there’s literally nowhere else they fit at the moment.
OH actually I just thought, I took all the fabric bolts out of the tv area in the built-in, i could put them in there for now just so they’re not on the floor.

Kitty!

My dad had to have a biopsy procedure on Wednesday. Went ok, dr said prognosis was good, he went home with a bunch of meds to recover. Saturday morning mom calls, and sounds totally normal. “Hey!” I was like hi. And then I heard her say “Be careful” to somebody in the background and then she says back to me “Your dad just fell.” The way she said it sounded like he’d just tripped over something while she was on the phone with me. So I was like, well is he ok? And then she was like “NO he fell out of the shower and I think he’s having a seizure and I need ya’ll!!” I had her on speaker phone and Chase started saying “Tell her to call 911!” So she hung up and did and we rushed out to their house.

Thankfully he did NOT have a seizure. The EMTs (who were already there when we got there) determined what happened – he’d taken some of his pain medicine that morning (on an empty stomach, because they were going out to breakfast), then got in the shower, started feeling dizzy and passed out. He said he could feel himself going so he maneuvered himself to not hit his head or anything. He scraped up his leg pretty bad and was a little out of it for a few minutes but otherwise OK.

What a start to Saturday though.

Sunday I sewed a bit but was mostly lazy because that’s the day I woke up with this cold. That evening though I went over to Nana’s for our first night of Hunt a Killer with Nana, Kristie, Cath, Rach and Ash!

It was a lot of fun and we successfully eliminated our first suspect. Looking forward to the next one.

This week, I guess I’ll just still be working on the strands for these snoods… might start on Black Widow. Mostly though I want to just get over this cold.

Oh! Sims game update. With no pics of course.
So Worf and Ro had a son and it’s Miles O’Brien. Tasha, the grandma, is somehow still hanging in there? I don’t even know how she’s lived so long. They had a bunch of money (my original goal with the game was no cheats – earn 1 million dollars. I’ve cheated a few times, with skills – but that’s it. They’re up to 600K! Nice.), so I ended up building them a basement rumpus room and I kinda love it.

BUT… I was finally kinda getting bored with my 4 generation family and decided I kinda wanted to do the same thing, but with Star Wars characters. So I’ve got a new household going with Shmi, Anakin, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. It’s… also kinda boring so far. I need some kind of goal beyond “anakin grows up, marries padme, they have luke and leia, they grow up, leia and han have ben…” and so on. I dunno.
